Aniya Mayo - Co-Founder and Co-Director

Aniya Mayo graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology. Aniya has worked for the YMCA for the past 5 years and Southwest Elementary for the past 3 years, where she found her passion in working with the youth. Aniya founded Growing the Distance Inc, a non-profit organization, to serve as a positive outlet and resource for local youth by providing mentoring, academic development and character building activities. Aniya is an active youth advocate, and works selflessly to meet kids where they are and run the race to adulthood with them.


Sherena Sabla - Co-Founder and Co-Director

Sherena Sabla Co-founded Growing the Distance Inc.- Summer Camp, while obtaining a degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Sherena has worked with children for over 6 years as a Guilford County Schools ACES group leader, an experienced childcare provider and 6th grade writing teacher. Sherena has an extreme passion for children and has found so much joy in doing so. 


Abdul Pridgen - Camp Leader

Abdul Pridgen is currently enrolled at GTCC pursuing a degree in education. He has a passion for children and his desire is to help them grow not only in the classroom but in their lives. Abdul is currently an ACES group leader and is loved by the staff, students and parents. One of his goals in life is to become an effective and memorable math teacher.


Demone Harrison - Camp Leader

Demone Harrison graduated from WSSU with a degree in sports management. He loves teaching kids sports and helping guide them through life. Demone also plays basketball professionally. He has traveled and played for a few countries while holding basketball camps and providing help and aid in those countries as well. 


Hailey Williams - Junior Camp Leader

Hailey is a sophomore in high school. She enjoys spending time with family, friends and traveling. She was recently inducted into the Beta Club. Her favorite color is red and she's a huge fan of thriller films. Her friends would describe her as outgoing, creative and thoughtful. Hailey plans on attending The University of North Carolina at Greensboro to pursue a career as a travel nurse.
